The hijab boutique

Author: Michelle Khan
Illustrator: Eman Salem

It’s international women’s day and all the students have to bring something representing their mother. Farah hears all the students discussing all the fancy stuff they will bring in. Farah feels sad because her mother is not rich and doesn’t own anything fashionable. She struggles to find something for her assignment, but after deep thought, she discovers her mum’s unique treasure.

In this story, Farah learns that we can all celebrate our differences. I love how Farah feels confident about herself at the end of the story and feels proud of her culture and who she is.
She learns that we can always be great the way we are. She really develops as a character and becomes more sociable with others and is no longer shy and quiet.

I also liked how the story contained facts about different types of hijabs. I learnt about beautiful, different hijabs that Muslim women from around the world wear. Kuwaiti hijabs, Egyptian head coverings and so many more.

It was a very nice book and I really recommend it. It is a must-read! ????????
